Rules & Event Guide
Welcome to GRIP Autocross! Our events are designed to provide a fair, competitive, and enjoyable experience for all participants. This guide contains all the information you need on vehicle requirements, competition classes, and event specifics.
Spectator and Grid Access
- Spectator: $5 Donation per person.
- Grid/Pit Access: $10 Donation per person, includes ride-alongs. Some helmets are provided for ride-alongs, but bringing your own approved helmet is recommended.
General Vehicle Requirements
Production-Based Vehicles: Competing vehicles must be derived from a production model, including cars and trucks, whether kit cars or those with a fiberglass or carbon fiber body resembling a production model.
Tire Regulations: All tires must have a treadwear rating of 200 or more. Vehicles with lower-rated tires compete only in the Exhibition Class and are ineligible for awards.
Front Tire Width Classification:
- Vehicles with a front tire width of 255mm or narrower enter the Small Tire Class.
- Vehicles with a front tire width of 265mm or wider enter the Big Tire Class.
Competition Classes
Big Tire Class (B)
- Eligibility: Front tire width ≥ 265mm; minimum weight of 2800 pounds (including driver).
- Identifier: ‘B’ prefix, followed by a competition number (e.g., B999).
Small Tire Class (S)
- Eligibility: Front tire width ≤ 255mm; minimum weight of 1800 pounds (including driver).
- Identifier: ‘S’ prefix, followed by a competition number (e.g., S95).
Truck Class (T)
- Eligibility: Any tire size; truck’s width must exceed its height; minimum weight of 2800 pounds (including driver).
- Identifier: ‘T’ prefix, followed by a competition number (e.g., T130).
Ladies Class (L)
- Eligibility: Supplementary class for female drivers.
- Identifier: ‘L’ prefix in front of the main class prefix (e.g., LS18).
Novice Class (N)
- Eligibility: First-year drivers; graduates after first year or three wins.
- Identifier: ‘N’ prefix in front of the main class prefix (e.g., NB76).
Exhibition Class
- Eligibility: Tires under 200 treadwear; not meeting weight requirements for other classes.
- Restrictions: Ineligible for competition shootouts, prizes, or awards.
Registration and Inspection
- Fees: $50 for members, $60 for non-members.
- Tech Inspection: Ensure vehicles are ready for inspection with the hood and trunk open, doors unlocked.
Prizes and Awards
- Shootout Prizes: $400 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place.
- Class Wins: $100 per class win (minimum of 4 vehicles per class required).
Safety and Compliance
- Vehicle Inspection Requirements:
- Working seat belts and throttle return.
- All lug nuts present and tight.
- Battery securely tied down.
- Firm brake pedal.
- No leaking fluids.
- Tires with measurable tread.
- All loose items removed, including driver mat and hubcaps.
- Clearly defined vehicle numbers on both doors about 8″ tall.
- Apparel: Closed toe shoes required. Snell SA2010 or DOT2010 or newer helmets. Loaner helmets available but limited.
- Noise Regulations: Sound limit of 99db enforced. Participants over this limit may be asked to leave to avoid risk to the event site.
Additional Rules
- Conduct: Unsafe behavior, alcohol, drugs, and pets are prohibited.
- Weather Policy: Events will run rain or shine, with provisions for severe weather.
- Vehicle Inspection: Participants may be required to have their vehicle (with driver) weighed to verify class eligibility.
- Prohibited Vehicles: Motorcycles, quads, side-by-sides (SXS), Slingshots, and go-karts are not permitted to compete.
- Rule Amendments: The event organizers reserve the right to modify these rules at any time to enhance the competition’s fairness and integrity.
